FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I get a lot of the same questions, so I really appreciate you checking if the questions has been answered already somewhere below. ♡ Thank you!
Commissions
Questions related to the commission process.
-
No is my default answer. By being a Bee tier Patreon supporter you are entitled to at least one small commission slot a month, outside of this commissions are announced through Patreon & sometimes publicly on social media (Twitter). So keep an eye out for that!
-
Usually the method of how to place a commission is included in the post advertising the commission opening. Most commonly you fill out a google form and wait for me to get back to you with a quote or a green light.
If you are a Patron you can simply message me where you are comfortable. (Twitter, email, discord.)
Once your commission is accepted, you pay the invoice and sit back and wait for me to get to you on the queue. From there you’ll get a sketch to approve, and then a finished piece.
-
It depends on the queue. Expect a 1-2 month wait, but completion can always be sooner. I usually inform you about the queue status when you place your commission and I will message you about queue changes.
Please be patient and prepared for potential delays. If you need a piece by a certain date just let me know beforehand. You’re always free to message me and ask for updates, but I always recommend checking trello first!
-
Prices are listed based on a general ‘common’ rate, and designs that will take significantly more time to draw are considered ‘complex’. This can be highly detailed markings, lots of colors and gradients, stripes, tattoos, complex clothing, large horns, mechanic parts etc.
If you are in doubt about your character qualifying for ‘complex design’ fees, feel free to email me and ask.
-
Yes! Custom designs are an additional +$250 fee to any commission type. You can chose the level of artistic liberty you want, and i’m happy to work from descriptions, moodboards, pinterest boards or general prompts for artistic liberty.
Unless you specifically want to, you won’t just be stuck with the first design I give you. Designs come in batches of four slightly different versions of the same concept that you get to chose from to customize further. You get to keep the final design, while the draft versions remain with me to recycle as I see fit.
I am not comfortable making copies of existing designs by me or others, so don’t ask.
-
If you are a Patron this is fine! Just message me and inquire about your idea, and we’ll work out a price. For non-patrons you are limited to the commission types listed.
-
If you’ve commissioned me and don’t see your name on trello please message me and let me know. I work based on the trello queue so if you aren’t on the list there is a chance i’ll forget, which could delay your commission.
I manage these things manually, so human error is bound to happen sometimes!
-
Sometimes I can change the commission type to one of equal value if I haven’t started sketching yet. Just message me and ask.
Take your time to fill out the form and make sure you include everything you need. If you happen to forget anything just make sure to let me know as soon as possible to avoid fees. Once I start sketching there is little room for large changes.
-
This will almost always be a no. I don’t want to copy other artists work or infringe on their ideas. You should probably inquire about their commission availability instead.
Bases
Questions related to my custom bases and expansions.
-
You can find all my bases for sale over on Gumroad!
-
Sorry, not currently. I’m working on alternatives, but at the moment they’re only available through gumroad.
-
This commonly is one of two issues.
✧ The compression.
Upon purchase you receive a digital download containing a .rar file that you need to open. This is intentional and it is your own responsibility to retrieve these files using software such as Winzip(pc) or tap it in your files folder(ipad). Inside you’ll find the .psd base packs and .png resources.
- How to open files on pc/mac
- How to open files on ipad/ios✧ The file size.
Sometimes you’ll reach the layer limit for procreate depending on your ipad model and storage. This is not something I can change, but if you contact me at contact@catlawn.art I can send you a smaller chopped up version of the file as an alternative! Remember to include the email you used to purchase for me to check receipts. -
Yes. You need art software compatible with .psd files and that has a layer feature.
Compatible software can be but is not limited to Photoshop, Paint Tool SAI, Clip Studio Paint, Procreate etc.
-
Not without purchasing them separately. The only exceptions are listed in the terms of service.
-
Yes, the items I made for the anthro ref maker will be available to purchase individually once I finish the planned expansions for the base. I just want to wait until all the items are done so I can make a big bundle.
-
Yes!* If you own a base by me you are free to sell adoptables and do custom commissions using the lines. You are also free to make new items and assets that go with the base and sell those as add-ons as long as you follow the terms of service.
*You may not re-sell the base or make any profit by distributing raw material I have produced. If you sell custom lines or assets you cannot redistribute the files, you need to re-direct your customers to the original first.
-
I try to make my bases as versatile as possible by covering a wide range of species and options. However it’s very hard to make lines connect if large changes are made to the structure and it makes the base more difficult to use.
So as much I would like to make a masc expansion, or a bodytype add-on, it’s already very difficult to stay within an ipad friendly layer limit, and the domino effect of changing those defining features adds up layers quickly. Which is why the cat base is 3 separate files.
I’m always working on improving my bases and I appreciate the feedback, so I’m sorry about the limitations.
-
If after every attempt has failed you still can’t access the files somehow, i’m always happy to give you an alternative download link if you provide your email for the receipt.
I do prefer helping you troubleshoot the issue though, because being reliant on me personally delivering you files can cause delays, and you will be running into the same issues with free updates or other purchases in the future.
-
It is your own responsibility to archive the downloaded files in a safe location and make a back-up.
I’m always happy to re-send you the files if you give me your email for the receipt! but if you forgot which email you used, got locked out of your account or don’t remember where you put the files I can’t help you.
